The 300 SL Gullwing has always been a desirable automobile. But with this one comes a story that you can tell your grandchildren.

To get to talk to the people that did things first is getting more rare as time passes on. For example Neil Armstrong no longer walks the earth, making it impossible to talk to him about his walk on the moon. No comparing a like but the same thing goes for the people who drove the absolute classics when it comes to cars for the first time and what it was like. Well, now you have the chance.
Jim Hall bought this 1954 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing just to years after it came out and now he is passing it along. “It was probably one of the original cars that got me excited about how cars were made and the technology that was involved. It was impressive to me and was one of my inspirations as a young engineer, along with the D-Type Jaguar, so when I had an opportunity to get one, I jumped at it.” - Jim Hall said about when he got the opportunity to buy this car. And now that is a opportunity you can jump on. The car rolls in to RM Sothebys this weekend and if you jump on it you can take its old owner, Jim Hall, himself for a long drive and just talk about what a great car this is and how it was to drive when it was brand new.
