Schott has more then ones revolutionized the history of clothes with their innovative jackets. The brand was created in 1913 in Lower East Side Manhattan by the brothers Irving and Jack Schott who started making raincoats.
When WWII came along it was Schott who designed and produced the first bomber jacket, a jacket that protected the American pilots as they fought for liberty over Europe and the Pacific. The marines also kept warm in Schott jackets, peacoats was their choice.
Irving Schott loved cigars. So when it was time for him to create the worlds first leather motorcycle jacket, he named it after his favourite cigar – the Perfecto. The Perfecto were unique also in another way. It was the first jacket to have a zipper. The Perfecto became a symbol for adventure and danger which always has been closely associated with the biker culture and is one of the most imitated jackets of all times. Schott Perfecto became world famous when Marlon Brando wore it in the the now cult classic The Wild Ones in 1954, which led to the jacket being banned in schools all over USA for symbolizing a degenerated youth. A youth for which another legend were a role model – James Dean who also loved his Perfecto jacket up until his too early death. During the 70’s and the 80’s the Perfecto was again in the center for all rebels when worn by The Ramones and Sex Pistols..
